Abstract. Theoretical and experimental technical studies of dynamic processes of wheel-and-rail interaction in the lateral plane, as well as formation of the rail lateral wear during their mechanical interaction with the wheels of the wagon running gear in curvilinear track sections are considered. Objective of the research was to determine influence of coefficient of friction between rail head lateral inner edge and lateral face of the wheel ridge crest on the loads and operation of rail head lateral face depending on its wear. Theoretical and experimental technical methods of contact interaction studies are presented, which take into account normal and tangential loads in zone of mutual contact between the rail head lateral face and wheel flange at their longitudinal and circular mutual sliding and with the use of antifriction materials. Results of the research should reduce intensity of mutual wear of the rail lateral faces and running gear wheel flanges. The findings can be used for railway, industrial and underground rail transport.

Keywords: rails, loading, specific pressures, wear, rail transport.
