Motivation for Change
Geo-Technical Mechanics journal is devoted to cutting edge research in theory and practice of geomechanics. It serves as an international publication organ for new ideas, insights and results from industry and academic research on rock mechanics, geology of mineral deposits, processing and utilization of mineral raw materials, integrated power system performance, technologies and engineering of mineral resources development, occupational safety and occupational health in mining, degradation of elastomers, mining railway issues as well as environmental protection.
The Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) is a global initiative to encourage the development and promotion of best practices in evaluation of researchers and the outputs of scholarly research.
DORA also emphasizes the journal’s accountability to rigorous assessment and reporting of impact both internally and externally. DORA-aligned research assessment will promote clearer processes of assessment and will enable researchers (their publishing activity) to be recognized for diverse outputs.
Current plans regarding research assessment and DORA implementation
The Editorial Board will be creating a task force to review its assessment practices, and is tasked with delivering a strategic plan by the end of the calendar year.

Geo-Technical Mechanics journal is aiming to join DORA, joining thousands of institutions and individuals globally. Major journals all over the world have also signed DORA.
Geo-Technical Mechanics journal adheres to the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and strives to responsibly and inclusively evaluate the research papers, submitted to the journal. We do this by explicitly considering the manuscripts that are appropriate to the aims and scope of the journal.

Responsible assessment
Bibliometric indicators are not used or considered when authors submit their manuscripts to the journal. More specifically, journal-based metrics are not used for research assessment of individuals’ (authors’) manuscripts submitted to the journal and instead aims and scope-appropriate indicators such as peer reviewing, innovation, creativity, and/or impact on society and community are considered.
Transparent assessment
Assessment process of the research manuscripts is transparent and clear due to comprehensive description of the Reviewing Process, Authors Statements, Data Sharing Policy, License to Publish, Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement.
